Point Pleasant, W.Va. – (November 25, 2019) – On Thursday, November 21st, 2019, Fruth Pharmacy held its 29th Annual Service Awards and luncheon.  Employees were honored for their years of service and special awards were also given in the following categories: President’s Choice Award for Best Corporate Support; World of Difference Award; Rising Star Award; Pharmacist of the Year; Manager of the Year; Pharmacy Technician of the Year; and Associate of the Year.

This year’s theme, Celebrating the Fruits of Your Labor, was introduced by Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy.

“William Arthur Ward said, ‘Feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it.’ Today is all about giving that present to all of our Fruth team members here to be honored for their years of service and nominations for awards.

Fruth has much to be thankful for: 67 years of business, hundreds of committed and hardworking employees and the support of our many communities.

I am thankful for the vision that my father had – to serve the local communities like family and to help provide job opportunities of the people in those communities. I am proud to continue that legacy, and I am very thankful for every employee who comes into work each day with a mission to make someone’s life a little better. As I have started my elf travels, I have met many customers who see their local Fruth as a not only a great place to shop and get their prescriptions, but also a place they can be supported, heard and treated with friendship. In just a few stores, I have already met a mother who lost her only daughter to a drug overdose, a lonely widower who comes to Fruth for the social interaction, a sad granddaughter who had just brought her grandmother home to begin Hospice, and an excited new mother who just adopted two toddlers from foster care. Many days your job also involves a bit of counseling. I am proud that Fruth is a place that helps meet the needs of our customers beyond the purchase. Thank you for providing that type of environment,” Fruth stated.

The following years were honored for years of service:  5 Years: Karen Shaw, Jeanette Bates, Carri Barrett, Tara Blankenship, Sandy Napper, James Riegel, Roselyn Roush, Clinton Baise, Patti Colegrove, Kyonna Perry, Karla Baker, Walter Simpson, Lindsey Dufore, Johnny Quesenberry, Rebecca Barnett, Valerie Wiseman, Tammy Lawson, Lindsay Crowley, Annette Wick, Kirt Shipley, Douglas Crawford, Tina Dailey, Drew Massey; 10 Years: Penny Clark, Larry Anderson, Lynne Fruth, Brittney Linkous, Lori Russell; 15 Years: Polly Sheppard, Kelly Smith, Carol Anderson, Kathryn Sanders, Paula White, Jennifer Sauer, Michelle Gloeckner, Marcia Russell; 20 Years: Martha Johnson, Robin Davis, Pamela Durbin, Cathy Patterson, Sandra Keefer, Tiffany Queen; 25 Years: Linda Webster; 30 Years: Shelly Hodges, John Mourat, Patty Holley; 35 Years: Karen Burdette.

Pictured is K9 Ogi with Officer Tyler Marlow and Fruth Manager Kevin Archer.

Point Pleasant, W.Va. – (October 10, 2019) – During the month of August, Fruth Pharmacy held an event to help local law enforcement agencies’ K9 units.

Each Fruth location chose an agency and set a goal to achieve in order to help their local K9 unit.

Thanks to Fruth employees and customers, over $2,500 was raised for local K9 Units.

In the chain, Fruth Pharmacy in Mineral Wells raised the most funds for their K9.  A total of $950 was raised for the Wood County Sherriff’s K9, Ogi.

Cynthia Marie of Milton, WV is pictured above with her grandson. Marie won the Purina motorized kid car raffle.

“We determined we wanted to help Ogi get a vest,” Kevin Archer, Manager at Fruth Pharmacy in Mineral Wells, stated, “we learned through speaking with the Wood County Sheriff’s department that they needed $970 for a vest – we got close to our goal.”

To help reach their goals for their K9s, Fruth stores sold raffle tickets for a $1 for a chance to win a motorized kid car donated by Purina. Customers and employees could also enter their dog’s photo into a Facebook contest for a $5 donation per photo to a local K9 unit.  Fruth Category Manager, Marc Lippert, also worked with his vendors to provide a day where 10% of all pet product sales were donated to local K9 units.

“This was our first year for the event,” Melanie Sherman, Advertising/Graphic Specialist for Fruth Pharmacy shared, “we were very pleased with the outcome.  It takes a lot of people at store and corporate level, vendors, and our customers to help us achieve our goals for these organizations. For a first year out, to begin to introduce the idea of helping K9 units, this was a success. I hope it continues to grow in the future,” she completed.

Fruth Pharmacy in Athens and Fruth General Store in Nelsonville partnered to raise funds for Bora with the Athens County Sheriff’s department.  They were able to give Bora $458.00 towards the purchase of a new specialized crate.

“We would like to thank everyone in the community for their support in this event,” Sherman began, “our customers and our employees have big hearts; we ask for their help often, and they never waiver in their support of our local communities – THANK YOU!”

Fruth Pharmacy Nelsonville Transfers Prescriptions to Kroger

Fruth Pharmacy of Nelsonville suffers due to Medicaid reimbursement in the state of Ohio. Fruth Pharmacy, Inc. will be transferring patient prescriptions to Kroger in Nelsonville. The retail store will stay open with new hours.

Point Pleasant, W.Va. – (September 24, 2019) – It’s a sad day for Fruth Pharmacy. The family-owned company of 31 locations, has made the decision to close the pharmacy inside of their Nelsonville, Ohio location.

“With the extremely low managed Medicaid reimbursement in the state of Ohio, Fruth Pharmacy can no longer continue to operate our Nelsonville location as a pharmacy,” Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy began, “We look forward to continuing to serve our retail customers with the same great service.  We will continue to have Western Union, EBT, gift selections, and more,” Fruth concluded.

On Tuesday, September 24th at noon, Fruth Pharmacy of Nelsonville transferred prescription files to Kroger of Nelsonville, Ohio.  Patients can contact the Kroger pharmacy at 740-753-1984 for assistance with their prescriptions.

Fruth Pharmacy of Nelsonville will become Fruth General Store and will continue to operate as a retail merchandise store. The store will sell over-the-counter medications and products, health and beauty items, grocery, gift items and baskets, and electronics.

Fruth General Store of Nelsonville will have new hours.  The new hours will be Monday through Saturday, 10 am – 6 pm.  Delivery services will no longer be available at this location.

All Ohio pharmacies have been suffering and many have placed blamed on low reimbursements for managed Medicaid prescriptions.  In the past 3 years, over 100 pharmacies in Ohio have closed.

“These pharmacies, and Fruth pharmacies, have served the Medicaid population and provided the extra care that our Medicaid population needs,” Fruth informed an Ohio legislative committee earlier this year. “As a result of the lower reimbursements, Fruth Pharmacy and the other pharmacies are being paid the least to care for patients who often require the most.”

Earlier this year, many community pharmacies spoke to The Ohio Department of Medicaid and addressed their concerns that the current reimbursements under the program were insufficient to continue in business.

Numerous rural areas in Ohio are serviced by local or family-owned pharmacies.  In some areas, due to pharmacy closures, patients are having to drive a considerable distance to fill their prescription medications.

If you would like to contact The Ohio Department of Medicaid and express your concerns, please write or speak to your local representative or reach out to The Ohio Department of Medicaid at 1-800-324-8680 or visit their website at Medicaid.ohio.gov/contact.

Fruth Pharmacy Collecting for Walking Miracles and Nationwide Children’s Hospital During National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Archive Photo. Left to right: Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy, is pictured with Jeremy Huff, former Fruth employee and childhood cancer survivor, during the 2018 “Where’s Lynne Fruth?” Christmas Event.

Point Pleasant, W.Va. – (September 11, 2019) – Fruth Pharmacy will be collecting items and monetary donations during the month of September for National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Brett Wilson, Founder and CEO of Walking Miracles Family Foundation, will be working with Fruth Pharmacy to identify families in Fruth communities in West Virginia and Ohio who need assistance, while their child is undergoing treatments for cancer.

“Our West Virginia families and survivors impacted by childhood adolescent and young adult cancer, need all the assistance they can get,” Wilson shared.  “Being able to collaborate and work with Fruth Pharmacy on this level is beyond my dreams.  We can impact so many families statewide going through this journey with pharmacy cards.  Everyone going through this journey is a ‘Walking Miracle’,” stated Wilson.

One of those ‘Walking Miracles’ is Jeremy Huff.  Huff was diagnosed with cancer at stage 4 while he was a junior at Winfield High School; two masses were found on his brain.  Huff’s football coach put him into contact with Brett Wilson of Walking Miracles.

“Walking Miracles helped me and is still helping me,” Huff stated, “Fruth has always been good to me – before I was an employee and even now Fruth continues to be good to me,” Huff shared.

Huff worked for Fruth Pharmacy for 4 years at the Scott Depot location.  Huff was a Fruth Scholarship winner and participated in the annual Fruth Scholarship Golf Tournament.

Currently, Huff likes to help patients and families at Walking Miracles.  He distributes and assists with Walking Miracles’ welcome packets or he simply talks to kids and their parents about his and his family’s experience during his cancer diagnosis and treatments.

“I think I’m good at giving the truth – the advice kids and their families need; people don’t always think about how cancer affects your family – my mom had to put her job on pause, so she could be with me at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital during my treatments and my dad had to stay home with my younger brothers. It was a tough time for everyone,” Huff explained.

Walking Miracles Family Foundation provides families with welcome packets that include iPads, preloaded with apps to help families keep track of appointments, items they will need for appointments, and links to treatment plans and more.  Part of these packets include gift cards for services, gas, hotel rooms and other things a family may need while travelling for treatments.

You can help Walking Miracles and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in two ways:  1: You can provide a monetary donation to be used for gift cards to help pay for prescriptions, items needed for overnight treatments, or other items a family may need like groceries.  Please speak to a Fruth cashier if you would like to make a monetary donation.  There is no set amount and every penny counts. 2: You can purchase an item on Nationwide Children’s Wishlist and give to a Fruth cashier to place in the donation bin.  Nationwide’s Wishlist is available on fruthpharmacy.com or on Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s website at: https://www.nationwidechildrens.org/giving.

“Our employees have been touched by childhood cancer in more than one community,” Lynne Fruth, President of Fruth Pharmacy began, “Fruth also has had employees, like Jeremy Huff, that were childhood cancer survivors. We are pleased to be able to offer support to local families and let them know we are thinking of them and their children, during these difficult days,” Fruth concluded.

“The things that helped me the most during the most difficult times, were my friends,” Huff stated.  My friends and family were always there for me.  My faith in God kept me going.  God talked to me when I was diagnosed and told me that ‘He’s got this’,” Huff shared.

When asked what Huff would tell a current childhood cancer patient and their family, Huff said, “I’m a cancer survivor, Brett’s a cancer survivor – and as a survivor, all you want to do is help others. I would tell anyone today, if you need help – even if you have finished your treatments, contact Walking Miracles.  It’s been over 7 years and Walking Miracles is still helping me,” Huff concluded.

Fruth Pharmacy is a family-owned pharmacy with locations in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Walking Miracles Family Foundation is a 501c3 charity in West Virginia. We help caregivers, families and survivors impacted by childhood, adolescent and young adult cancer to resources and referral networks and to help defray the cost of travel during the cancer journey.  You can donate directly to Walking Miracles at http://www.walkingmiracles.org.
